The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences is pleased to announce our upcoming Fellowship opportunity for the upcoming academic year. The Dean's Office invite departments to nominate eligible, incoming doctoral candidates.

Fellowship Programs are intended to aid in the recruitment of the most highly sought-after doctoral students applying to Tufts University. The goal of the fellowships is to augment the student's aid package by increasing the Fellows' total stipend by $10,000 (over the first two summers of the student's study).

Each doctoral program is invited to nominate up to 3 of their strongest candidates for each fellowship.

Dean's Fellowship | Eligibility Criteria & Nomination Information

Our graduate programs are committed to achieving a diverse student body through increasing the number of students and faculty from underrepresented groups in university doctoral programs.

Each doctoral program can nominate up to three (3) rank-ordered candidates (1 being your top nominee and 2 and 3 being candidates you would like considered if your 1 ranked candidate denies admission) for a Deans’ Fellowship.

Selection Criteria for Nomination:

Doctoral applicants
Applicants with a strong academic record as indicated by transcript, test scores, programs of study, and related experiences
Excellent Letters of Recommendation
U.S. Citizens or permanent residents
While students from racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds currently underrepresented in graduate education are strongly urged to apply, GSAS faculty will consider all doctoral candidates for the Dean’s Fellowship regardless of their to race, national origin, or ethnicity.

Statement of Nomination

This statement is the biggest factor considered during the review. Please be sure to support all eligibility criteria, including how the candidate enhances the diversity of our doctoral community. Also, provide the candidate's current offer of financial support (if possible, comparing it to that at competing schools), and convey why the fellowship offer will be needed and may persuade the student to choose to attend Tufts University.
