Requirements and Deadlines: School of Engineering Programs

 

Be sure to review the admissions process overview and application requirements and policies in addition to the program-specific requirements below. Separate applications, including fees, are required if you apply to more than one graduate program at Tufts University. 

Please note: a maximum of two applications are allowed to be submitted for one admissions cycle, and must be degree programs in two separate departments.

  • Why do you want to be a scientist or engineer and how will you use your training to impact society?
  • Tell us about a project you may have done for a class or in a research lab or other setting discuss the problem you were trying to solve, how you approached it, and what you learned. 
  • Share an experience where you challenged of failed at something. How did you deal with it or stay motivated and work to overcome it?
  • What are you passionate about outside of school or the lab?
  • Why have you chosen to apply to Tufts BME? Are they are any research groups you are especially interested in?
  • Is there any other relevant information not specified in your CV or questions above that you think will strengthen your candidacy to the program?

  • Why do you want to attend Tufts Gordon Institute's M.S. in Engineering Management program and how does it fit into your future career aspirations and personal goals?

 
Short essay (optional, please include at the bottom of your personal statement): If you would like, you may also submit an optional short essay (200-250 words) in which you respond to one of the three prompts below. This essay is not required and should be completed only if you feel it will provide the admissions committee with a more complete picture of who you are. Choose from one of the three questions:
  • Tell us about a time when you had to convince an individual or group of your idea.
  • Tell us about your most meaningful leadership experience.
  • Tell us about a time when you identified an opportunity for improvement within your department/company/organization and you were able to successfully implement this change.

Innovation and Management (MSIM, MSIM/MS)

Applicants applying to the MSIM/MS degree must apply by the deadline listed for the department the MS program belongs to, and must meet application requirements for both the MS and MSIM programs. 

*International applicants, and applicants who would like to be considered for a tuition scholarship, are encouraged to apply by March 15.

Personal statement for MSIM applicants: applicants must submit a 600-800 word essay that incorporates their responses to the following questions:
  • What sparked your interest in the Tufts M.S. in Innovation and Management and what specifically makes you excited about the program?
  • How does the MSIM program fit into your personal, professional and/or educational journey?
  • What are your skillsets and strengths that will help you to be a successful contributor in the program and positively impact the experience of your classmates in the MSIM cohort?
Personal statement for MSIM/MS applicants: applicants must submit a 1200-1500 word essay following the general personal statement prompt. Please make sure your statement addresses your reasons for wanting to enroll in both degree programs.
